For most of us, there aren't enough hours in the day, and when we have pets, it's hard to pay attention to their every move.
It's hard to know all of things in our homes that are dangerous to our pets, but as Veterinarian Dr. Jim Rupnow tells us there are a couple of items you may want to be extra careful around.
"The basics are the same when it comes to household items," says Dr. Rupnow.
They're the little things our animals love to get their little paws into.
"Too many treats, too much people food."
Like...
"Chocolate, and chocolate is a toxin, in most cases if they eat too much chocolate they vomit, which is the first sign of toxicity so they get rid of it," says Rupnow.
But the list doesn't stop there, according to an article posted by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, household cleaners, medicines like ibuprofen, and plants like Easter lily's top the list of household items that can harm your furry friends.
Not only that, but Dr. Rupnow says you want to be extra careful as the holidays approach, because plants like poinsettias can be very dangerous to cats and dogs alike.
So that poses the question, what do you do if your animal gets into any of these items?
"Immediately induce vomiting, and call your vet," Rupnow says.
He also says it's important for us to treat our animals like toddlers, because they love to get into the items they know they shouldn't.
