When looking to name their Hungarian hunting dog, Sarah Crowell and Kit Maxfield decided on Trigger.

“We were just brainstorming ideas over margaritas,” said Crowell, of Kansas City.

Good thing they didn’t settle on “Buddy.” Yell that name and you may get a lot of dogs running to you. Buddy again topped the list of most popular dog names of pets licensed in Kansas City.

Similar to 2008, the most popular dog names in order were Buddy, Max, Molly and Maggie.

When it comes to cats, Shadow and Smokey replaced Tiger and Max at the top of the list of most popular cat names. And sure enough, Buddy tied for fourth this year among cat names.
